Arduino Uno computer that runs BASIC

This instructable describes how to design a BASIC shield for Arduino Uno to construct a standalone computer with BASIC interpreter. The shield uses the Atmega1284P MCU to run the TinyBASIC program and read the PS/2 keyboard inputs. The Atmega328 on Arduino UNO runs the TVout sketch and is responsible for generating a video signal to print characters on TV screen. Any input from the keyboard or output from TinyBASIC are sent to the Arduino UNO through a serial port and are then displayed on the TV screen by Arduino Uno.

New STM32 Nucleo development boards are mbed-enabled and support Arduino connectivity

STMicroelectronics reveals affordable, extensible platform called STM32 Nucleo for efficient prototyping with STM32 Microcontrollers. The STM32 Nucleo development boards are mbed supported, and have Arduino pin headers on board so that the tons of existing Arduino shields can be easily used with these boards.

The new STM32 Nucleo boards are mbed-enabled, and support Arduino connectivity while also providing ST Morpho extension headers that allow access to all of the microcontroller’s on-chip peripherals. As an mbed-enabled board, developers can make use of the mbed open source software platform, online tools and collaboration infrastructure at mbed.org. The board’s Arduino headers accept shields from the extensive Arduino ecosystem, allowing developers to add specialized functionality quickly and easily. ST will also offer its own dedicated shields supporting functions such as Bluetooth® LE or Wi-Fi® connectivity, GPS, audio recording leveraging the Company’s MEMS microphone expertise, proximity sensing, and wireless control.

Catweazle Mini: A Trinket type tiny development board for NXP LPC810 ARM Cortex M0+

NXP LPC810 ARM Cortex M0+ is a 32-bit ARM MCU that could run at 30MHz and has 6 general purpose IO, 4K flash, 1K SRAM, 2 Timers, SPI, I2C and UART. The Catweazle Mini is a Trinket-type embedded development board for NXP LPC810 ARM Cortex M0+. The built in bootloader enables flash programming with a simple serial FTDI cable.

Revised dual power supply boards are back in stock

We have added a 500mA PTC fuse to our dual (5.0V/3.3V) power supply regular board in the new version. This power supply regulator board provides constant 3.3V and 5.0V outputs from an unregulated DC input (6.5-10V). The DC outputs are accessible through a 3-pin terminal block. It is small in size (1.9″X1.0″) and can be easily enclosed inside a project box along with the project circuit board.

The board doesn’t have any ON/OFF switch, because it may not be useful if this board is enclosed inside the project box. We have included two through-hole pads on the board if you want to add an ON/OFF switch externally. There are two surface mount pads which are shorted by default with solder to close the circuit permanently. They must be de-soldered if an external ON/OFF switch has to be added.
